Feeling Like a Foreigner

It may be because everyone looks at us as we walk down the street,
or it may be because when I open my mouth to speak I sound American,
or it may be because my children are the only black faces I've seen in Rothwell,
or it may be because the banks aren't letting us open an account
But ... I feel like a foreigner in my own country.

God bless you...we are praying for you earnestly. I think of you multiple times every day. Keep your eyes focused on Him and He will sustain you. Much love from St. Louis and the Gabberts!!!!!

It's probably all of the above. Tho, I understand it's the Northern way. I was told they are just slower to open up and be friendly. Ask Dick and Flora Davies how they made friends around there and stopped feeling so "out of it". Did American's tell you you had a "lovely" accent? Then in the UK, they tell you that you sound American? We totally understand. It'll get better!!
Be glad you are NOT American and your accent will eventually return and prevail. Find some activities to involve your kids in (a music class for pre-schoolers or ballet). It all costs money but is one way to meet people.--Kathy

Michelle,
we miss you so much! Speaking of foreign, weds evening activities felt foreign last night, without the presence of the Northcutts! It is so exciting keeping up on your new adventures as a family, but please be assured that you are missed dearly! We explained to Daniel where Deanna went and then on Sunday he told his S.S.teachers that we were going to move too & not come to our church anymore. Oh the imagination on that one! God bless your incredible journey.

I agree with Andrea.....it just didn't seem right last night at church not seeing all of the Northcutts around the table eating their spaghetti dinners! We miss you guys, and we will continue to pray for you as you go through many adjustments (including to learn to speak ENGLISH again instead of AMERICAN!!! Ha!

Or it may be because your true citizenship isn't anyplace on earth. "But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ". (Php 3:20, ESV).

Glad you all arrived safely! With love and our prayers, The Applegates.
