Last Saturday we managed to totally surprise the kids.
Brian lived in the room next to us at the castle and was a good friend to the children. They often went to his room just to see if he was home. So when he called to let us know that he was coming through St Louis and wanted to meet up with us we invited him to spend the night and decided not to tell the children. So last Saturday evening they received the big surprise.
They were all ready for bed and we were sitting down reading a book. Gary had left the door open for Brian to come in. When he walked through the door the kids just stared. Brian came into the room and started to greet them, but it took 4 or 5 seconds for the kids to realize who was standing in their house - then they went crazy!! Elaina started bouncing up and down and Nicholas fell off of his chair! Then the excited voices all joined together for a very loud and enthusiastic welcome, along with questions like "Mr Martin how did you get here?" and statements of disbelief "It's Mr Martin!!"
What else can I say except we thoroughly enjoyed his short visit and it was well worth keeping it a secret.
